LITTLE INFO ABOUT POP MUSIC OF THE 1980's

Pop music of the 80's is mostly characterized by the use of non-traditional electronic musical instruments.  These types of instruments produce sound through the use of electronics. One popular example of this type of musical instrument is the synthesizers - an electronic instrument that is capable of producing a wide range of sounds.  The popularity of this instrument rose during the 80's when it was widely used by European artists.

The most popular type of pop music during the 80's is the dance-pop music, which is a dance-oriented kind of pop music.  They are such a big hit among teenagers and young adults.

Here in the Philippines, during the 1980's, every major record labels that are authorized to distribute locally, music that are released by international record labels, had their own dance groups. There are three types of dance groups: all-male groups, all-female groups and mix groups. When new dance-pop songs are released, they are promoted by these dance groups. These dance groups promote the songs in every music and variety shows. They danced the music that they promote.  Oftentimes, the choreography and the music are more popular than the music's artists.  Such is always the case during the 80's when people knew more about the choreography of a particular music and the music's title rather than the artist behind that music, except in the case of Michael Jackson wherein he was as popular as his music and the different choreography of his songs.

The popularity of dance-pop continues until the early 90's when the music scene gradually changed with the rise of alternative rock bands such as Green Day, Nirvana, Pearl Jam and many others.

Love it or hate it, pop music will always be around, it will never die. But there is no denying that the 80's pop music is simply unique and unforgettable.
