Tears For Fears is an English band formed by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith in 1981. The name Tears For Fears was inspired by Primal Therapy - a trauma-based psychotherapy created by American psychologist and psychotherapist Arthur Janov.
In 1981, Tears For Fears were signed to Phonogram Records, UK by A&R manager Dave Bates. Later in November, they released their first single "Suffer The Children" which was re-recorded for inclusion on their debut LP The Hurting which was released in 1983.
Their first number one single was "Shout" which was released in UK in November 1984 and in the US in June 1985. The song peaked at the number one spot in the music charts of Australia, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Netherlands, New Zealand and in the US Billboard Hot 100.
So far, Tears For Fears had released six studio albums and thirty singles.
