Direction is an English-Irish boy band. The group was formed during the U.K.’s The X Factor 7th series in 2010.
Each of the members of the group joined The X Factor as solo contenders
for the Boys Category but none of them succeed. Guest judge Nicole Scherzinger
suggested that the boys joined together as a five member group. They qualified
and made it to the Group Category. It was Harry Styles who gave the name One
Direction to their group. They eventually finished third at the The X Factor’s finals.
After
The X Factor, they signed with Simon Cowell’s record label Syco Records. Their
first album “Up All Night” was released internationally in 2012. It reached the
number one spot in the U.S. Billboard Charts. They are the first British Group
in the U.S. chart history to reach number one in the charts for their debut
album.
