What do One
Direction, Jennifer Hudson and Christina Aguilera have in common? All of them
were non-winners from music competitions.
In 1990, when
Christina Aguilera was only eight years old, she competed in Star Search, a television show that was
produced from 1983-1995. Aguilera placed second in the female vocalist
category.
Jennifer Hudson
joined the American Idol’s third
season (2004-2005) but ended only as a seventh placer. Hudson’s elimination from the competition was
considered by MTV as the most shocking of all time.
U.K.’s X-Factor was One Direction’s starting
point. Each member of One Direction auditioned as solo contestants for the
“Boys” category, but none of them succeed. At the suggestion of guest judge
Nicole Scherzinger, they were put together as a group, and became qualified for
the “Groups” category. They finished third at the finals.
Aguilera, Hudson and One
Direction may not be the big winners of Star Search, American Idol and X
Factor, respectively, but they are among the music industry’s most successful
artists.
